Development that benefits everyone

Affordable housing is really important in Buckinghamshire as it is such an expensive area to live. Fairhive, formerly Vale of Aylesbury Housing Trust, is a key provider of social homes, with about 8,500 houses in our local area.

Investing in sustainable modes of transport, like cycling and walking, is extremely important. Not only are there huge benefits for our health, but it is also significantly better for the environment.

Rob Butler MP presented a petition calling for the construction of the Aylesbury link of East West Rail to Parliament. Organised by Cllr Mark Winn, more than 2,000 people have demanded approval of the line which will cut traffic congestion, reduce pollution & slash train journey times.

Local people rightly want to have a say on local planning decisions, especially when many new houses are being built - as in Aylesbury. I asked Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick to confirm that MHCLG will listen, and ensure we also get the infrastructure we need.

The Aylesbury spur of East-West Rail is essential to the success and prosperity of the town. It will cut congestion, improve journey times and reduce air pollution.
