The Aylesbury constituency has received unprecedented economic support to protect jobs and businesses during the coronavirus outbreak. The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme has supported 14,500 jobs in Aylesbury and the nearby villages, with Government grants covering 80 per cent of people’s wages, up to £2,500 a month.
In addition to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme helping employees, local self-employed people are also receiving significant support - 4,800 self-employed people in the Aylesbury constituency are receiving grants worth a total of £15,800,000 from the Government to help with the impact of coronavirus.
The Government’s top priority throughout the coronavirus crisis has been to protect people’s lives and livelihoods, and the furlough and self-employment schemes have been a lifeline for millions of people and businesses across the country.
Aylesbury MP, Rob Butler, welcomed the extraordinary level of support for his constituents. He said:
“This is a hugely challenging time for local people and businesses, and the Government’s support schemes have helped to protect the jobs of thousands of people in Aylesbury and the nearby villages.
“We have so many fantastic businesses here in Bucks, and the Government’s world-leading economic response to the coronavirus crisis will mean that people can get back on their feet and get our local economy moving again as soon as it is safe to do so.
“Having spoken to local business owners, I know that they are hugely grateful for the wide-ranging support available. The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme has been a lifeline for many local companies and the flexible furloughing will be a great option for the businesses that are beginning to safely reopen.”
The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, said:
“Our economic response to coronavirus was designed to keep people in work, protect people’s incomes, and support businesses. These measures have been on a scale unmatched by any government in recent history. All to give us the best chance of recovering quickly as the economy reopens.
“Now our energies are focused on getting people back to work safely, growing the economy and ensuring people can thrive in the new post-Covid world.”
